Can't Install Guest Servies in Back Track 5

I'm looking for some help with getting Guest Services to install on a Back Track 5 Guest. VB is running on Win Vista Home Premium. I have tried to install via the guest machine and clicking on the R "ctrl" and "d", as well as clicking on "devices" and "install guest services". Both of these nothing happens. I have tried to load the .iso file and then mount it, but I get an error "mount: special device /dev/hdc does not exist". The steps I take when I get this are as follows in Back Track 5 in the Konsole.
1. cd /
2. mkdir /mnt/cdrom
3. mount /dev/hdc /mnt cdrom
Then I get the error. I have tried to find my cd/dvd rom with the "dmesg" command, but I do not see a cd/dvd drive listed. Another blog said to try and use "mount /dev/”Your device maybe hdd or other” /mnt/cdrom". I have no idea how to find this info. I also tried to "cd /mnt/cdrom" and then "ls" but nothing shows. I have tried to "power the machine down" both the VM and physical machine. I do see the "VBoxGuestAdditions.iso" listed in the Storage Tree as "IDE Primary Master" and check off the "live CD/DVD" option. Thanks to all who view this and any help given.

Sasquatch,

Thanks for the reply. I had seen this post and have tried the steps listed for Debian Based systems. I get the following error. Can you advise what I'm doing wrong, or hot to correct the error?
root@bt:-#sudo apt-get install dkms build-essential linux-headers-generic
Reading package lists...Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information...Done
build-essential is already the newest version.
Package linux-headers-generic is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
E: Package linux-headers-generic has no installation candidate

I appologize in advance for my lack of knowledge of Linux. That is the reason I am trying to get to learn it in a virtual environment.
Thanks,

use linux-headers-$(uname -r) instead.

I also wanted to let you know I followed the steps on viewtopic.php?f=6&t=24604.

root@bt:-# sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$ root -r
E: command line option 'r' [from -r] is not knows.

Thanks again for any help.

That's not what I typed. Notice the () around the uname -r?
Plus there is no sense in using sudo if you are already in root.
