Hello,

I'm trying to move my Windows Guest VM running on OSX with the CPU
hardware information below to a Ubuntu Linux without success.

Darwin CPU information

Hardware:

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B07
SMC Version (system): 1.16f11
Serial Number (system): W88043AFX92
Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-001EC20A6C55
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled

The targe system is Quad Cor Intel:

~:1> cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 42
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz
stepping : 7
cpu MHz : 800.000
cache size : 3072 KB
physical id : 0
siblings : 4
core id : 0
cpu cores : 2
apicid : 0
[...]

What I did was:

VBoxManage clonehd --format VDI 9cf64b91-73c1-46a8-b353-b5a89c6292a4 ClonedVMs/Windows/Windows.vdi

After copying the cloned VDI to the remote linux host I created a new
VM and added thus VDI image as primary disk.

After powering the VM on all I get is black screen after the
Virtualbox information is displayed. The VM just hangs.

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks and regards -- Peter

Try export/import instead. The settings should be a little closer to the original that way

Thanks for the hint.

But using the GUI export results in the same. It look like Windows XP
related problem.

When using F12 to boot from the first disk on the "Primary Master" IDE
controller Windows comes up with a text mode dialog saying that
Windows couldn't be started successfully because something hardware
related has been changed.

Of course, I've checked the Storage controller using VBoxManage
showvminfo command and on both instances it shows up as

[...]
Storage Controller Name (0): IDE-Controller
Storage Controller Type (0): PIIX4
Storage Controller Instance Number (0): 0
Storage Controller Max Port Count (0): 2
Storage Controller Port Count (0): 2
Storage Controller Bootable (0): on
IDE-Controller (0, 0): /home/peter/VMs/WindowsCloned.vdi (UUID: 6605235f-e20f-4df9-a072-8a5f9b3a4e8f)
IDE-Controller (1, 0): Empty
[...]

But I'm no Windows expert to get further with such a thing.

Any ideas how to get further?

Thanks and regards -- Peter

Common problems are:
PIIX3 or PIIX4 try switching?
IO APIC wrong. If this was off on original do not turn on.
