All,
I do not seem to be able to get USB working. Guest = Windows XP SP3. Host = Mac OS X 10.7.2. VirtualBox = 4.1.6. Extension pack 4.1.6 installed as well.

Code: Select all

macbook-wi:~ sven$ VBoxManage list extpacks
Extension Packs: 1
Pack no. 0: Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack
Version: 4.1.6
Revision: 74713
Description: USB 2.0 Host Controller, VirtualBox RDP, PXE ROM with E1000 support.
VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP
Usable: true
Why unusable:
I have a device filter in my virtual machine. This concerns a colorimeter (Datacolor Spyder2).
I do not have administrative privileges on my system.
If VirtualBox is running but the VM is not, VBoxManage list usbhost shows:

Code: Select all

UUID: a2a02954-1057-4f7e-a40a-31eb9b1c8494
VendorId: 0x085c (085C)
ProductId: 0x0200 (0200)
Revision: 1.0 (0100)
Manufacturer: ColorVision Inc.
Product: ColorVision Monitor Spyder
Address: p=0x0200;v=0x085c;s=0x000001cc294bd965;l=0xfd130000
Current State: Available
As soon as the VM starts up, this changes to:

Code: Select all

UUID: a2a02954-1057-4f7e-a40a-31eb9b1c8494
VendorId: 0x085c (085C)
ProductId: 0x0200 (0200)
Revision: 1.0 (0100)
Manufacturer: ColorVision Inc.
Product: ColorVision Monitor Spyder
Address: p=0x0200;v=0x085c;s=0x000001e965ad8713;l=0xfd130000
Current State: Captured
Unfortunately, XP does not see the Spyder. Also, hovering with my mouse over the connections icon in the lower right corner, it says "No USB devices attached". So I guess that's where it goes wrong! Suggestions? Thanks!

Exact same problem (with admin privileges). I am trying to connect a programmer/debugger. Used to work fine with Snow Leopard.... Maybe something has changed in Lion or the way VB deals with USB devices when running on Lion?

Anyone have anything new to try?

With VBox running but the VM not, Settings>Ports>USB. Check "Enable USB Controller" and check "Enable USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller". Select Device Filter "CBM Flash Disk [0100]" <OK>. Once you have VM running you can connect the flash drive. If your cursor is not in the VM XP window when you connect the drive, it will be read by the host Mac, in which case you will need to eject it from the Finder window and disconnect.
