Replacing the host OS with the guest OS

I wish to use VirtualBox to test and configure an OS. Once the OS is configured to my liking I wish to "install it" in place of the host OS, keeping all settings/configurations in tact. Is this possible? If so, how do I do this?

Have a look at gparted magic live cd, clonezilla.

But with Windows this is problematic, becauzse the virtual hardware is not the same as native. Maybe it works, maybe not. On Linux you get problems with the diskid by name (not /dev/sda1, /dev/samsung...../....).

Alwyas better is native installation.
