Hello ,

i need to bridge a virtual network connection such as VPN connection, and not the physical connection .
can i implement this using VirtualBox ?

I have tried VirtualBox and configured bridging to the VPN Connection, but it just ping the pc which hosting the VM and didn't ping any of remote machines which are already pinged by hosted pc.

Host PC : windows 7
VM : ubuntu 11.04

Who can help me ?

thank you !

VPN connections are like dial-up and PPPoE connections: they can't be bridged. Mostly because they are virtual adapters, but also because the driver doesn't work and thus isn't installed on the adapter.

If you put the VM in NAT mode, then you should be able to access systems on the other side of the VPN connection from it.

That should work in theory. I cannot test it atm, because I don't have a VPN on my Host. If ping fails, then it doesn't mean it doesn't work. You may have other options to get to the other side of the VPN, like SSH, RDP or http.

I can confirm that putting the VM in NAT mode allows me to ping remote servers via a VPN.

In my case, I have the VPN configured only on my host, not the VM. Ping works whether I start the VPN before or after I boot my Ubuntu VM.
