Getting error VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration not available

Post by rajasinha »

I had installed VirtualBox 4.1.6, in Windows 7 machine and Window-8 was the guest OS.
Things were going fine but yesterday after restarting the machine i started getting error "VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system. Certain guests (e.g. OS/2 and QNX) require this feature and will fail to boot without it." while trying to start the virtual machine.

Please help me out, I tried reinstalling the virtual box but it did not make any difference.

"VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system" means that VirtualBox can not see/use the feature of the host.
Either it needs to be enabled or something else is using it. Post the guests log file (as an attachment)

Code: Select all

HWACCM: No VT-x or AMD-V CPU extension found. Reason VERR_VMX_NO_VMX
Confirmed. VirtualBox does not see hardware-v. Make sure that you have it enabled in the bios and that nothing else is using it.
Do you use BitDefender virus protection?

I am getting the similar error while running the virtual machines. I created the virtual machines by installing the images (.vbox).
Any suggestion would be helpful.

May be this was not the most relevent , although related, post to figure out my issue.
Thankfully , I figured out that the issue is my processor does not support virtualization.
[Intel-Pentium-Processor-B940-(2M-Cache-2_00-GHz)]
Working on upgrading the processor.

Thanks!
