My host is a Mac OSX with Snow Leopard installed. The virtual computer is Windows Xp Home Edition with Service Pack 3. I need to be able to set up a symbolic link from my Mac to the virtual PC. This is why:
I want to use Valve's Source SDK to make maps for Portal 2 and other Source games. However, my PC is too crappy to run the map editor (Hammer). So, I need to use my Mac, and a virtual PC is the only way to do this. I've tried Crossover, and it doesn't work for this. To use Source SDK, I must have the games I want to map installed on Steam. However, there are about 30 GB of games, and I don't want to waste all that space by installing them a second time. So, I want to make a symbolic link of the game files folder on my Mac, and put it on the virtual PC.
Anyway, I set up the shared folders, and I put the symbolic link in the shared folder on my Mac. When I try to bring it out on the PC, it tries to copy all 30 GB of files. Can I somehow create a symbolic link of this symbolic link on the E drive, and have it linked to the C drive? Would it retain the properties of a regular symbolic link? And how would I go about creating a symbolic link between different drives? I don't mean just shortcuts, but actual symbolic links.
