system processor & execution cap settings

host -- linux
guest -- xp pro

for a host OS with Core 2 duo w/4g RAM available, what would be an optimal setting for the guest OS xp with regards to the settings for device - system processor and execution cap settings?

for the VM, the defaults are 1 CPU with no limit on execution cap. would something like 2 CPU with a 50% percent give a performance boost to guest OS? or is it negligible, or simply better to keep 1 CPU assigned to guest.

nothing gong on on the host while i use VB, except i might have firefox browser open.

All the evidence I've seen suggests that you should go with the defaults, that multiple CPUs just introduces management issues that make it go slower instead of faster.

thanks. i agree. i've noticed that both CPUs are working, and even thought the default states only 1 CPU, my VM guest OS windows system properties recognizes 2 CPUs. whether or not the VM is in fact using both i don't know, but it sure looks and appears like it is.
