No Internet connexion with windows

Hi everyone,

I checked on this forum and on others and I found no solution on the problem explained below:
I installed windows XP on Virtualbox few months ago. After installation of this guest system, the internet connexion worked well with the NAT option in the network menu.
After some weeks and also an update of Vbox to version 4.1.8, it was impossible to connect the guest system to internet. I tried to change the network options but nothing works.

Is it coming from the update? From the guest system?
Is windows infected by some viruses?
Does anybody encountered the same problem?

I precise that I'm a beginner concerning all the virtualization process...

Thank you, in advance, for your answers.

Hey,

I didn't get any answer on my problem. It is still actual and I'm not able to find any solution. Now I updated to VB 4.1.20...

Windows seems to be looking for an ip adress without finding it... :(

Helllpppp!!!

Thanks again!

This kind of problem may be difficult to debug remotely. I assume that the host internet connection still works and that you are still using NAT in the guest. In that case I would expect the guest to have internet too, but I'm not familiar with the kinds of problems that might arise on a Mac host. If you have access to a local IT support team then I would consult them.

It is also useful when diagnosing problems to have access to a zipped log file, and precise error messages or symptoms, and a description of the exact context in which they occur.

Thanks first! Hum I'm not very friendly with ziplog file, how do you get them so I can enclose this file?

My host (OS X Lion) has internet, everything works. Windows XP (the guest) which is connected throw the NAT settings isn't able to get an ip address... (home or at work). I asked to the person responsible for IT stuffs in my lab and he was unable to give me any help also... Too bad!

As I mentioned above, I see no real prospect of diagnosing this problem remotely. The logs say nothing useful. I am aware of no bug in any recent version of VirtualBox which would prevent NAT networking from working properly. Had that been true then the discussion threads would have been full of it. No such discussion is even going on in the Mac hosts area as far as I can tell. NAT is the simplest networking to set up: if the host has a working internet connection then the guest will have one too. If it doesn't work then I can only imagine there was some intervention on your part, for example trying to configuring the guest OS from manually, instead of allowing the automatic configuration to do its job.

In my opinion you should seek help from a local IT support person, or a friend who understands networks, etc. Get them to look at the networking configuration of your guest OS.
