Hello,

I have one problem and doubt, a notebook crash and the system of this notebook is very important.

The question is, i wanna mount this windows vista on a virtualbox but i don't know who to start. My question is i can mount a original system from notebook in to a vdi in other computer and try to start the system or reinstall system for run this vista on virtualbox?

If I can, you can tell me as I do?

You can try to start the netbook with a linux live cd. Try Gparted Magic. Then you need a big usb drive as backup medium.

In the guest use Clonezilla to make an image from the netbook. Store the image on the external usb disk.

On another pc start vbox. Create a new guest, as hard disk size use the same as the netbook has. Start the guest with the same live cd and restore the image with Clonezilla in the new guest.

I can try to put the hdd of notebook (the notebook problem is motherboard, i can't start this) with USB to another computer, then start with clonezilla, g4l, acronis, norton ghost any program for make clones and clone the usb hdd to a vdi of virtualbox.

And then to try start the windows vista make reinstall for install the drivers of vbox and start the system (:

If you have the drive mounted in a USB carrier and connected to another PC then you can easily create a virtual image of the drive using Disk2VHD.

That leaves you with a virtual hdd in VHD format, which I regard as non optimal for VirtualBox. Hence my next step would be to convert VHD to VDI using CloneVDI.

ps. If you know what you're doing then you can in fact use CloneVDI to convert directly from a physical disk to a VDI, by giving the drive's UNC name (e.g. "\\.\PhysicalDrive2") as the source file. However Disk2VHD is currently much friendlier for this function.
