Look for the DirectX library files and see if the properties show the right manufacturer. It should note Microsoft, not Sun or Oracle. You can try to get the latest version of DirectX and install it, see if that fixes things.

tried it, not easy

the easiest solutions is to start from scratch

build a new VM and install WDDM driver directly

goes faster than searching for hours

and i still have the aero problem

recently i installed 4.1.8 on my windows 7 64bit PC with my NVIDIA graphics card GTX 560
i installed as guest OS windows 7 32 bit
i lost the mini toolbar in the guest OS when i start up the VM
i have installed the most recent NVIDIA drivers on the host
i use in the guest 3,5 GB ram and 256 MB of video memory

hovering over the right place is no use, its just gone !

Were the directx libraries from the right manufacturer (i.e. MS)?

Other thing you can do is install Windows in trial mode, get the DX files to restore them on the Guest you want to fix and ditch it again. There should be only two or three files.

right, you could do that

but i dont see the point, it is just as much work

i guest sticking to the WDDM driver is the best option anyway

wont the d3d driver be ditch in the future ?

the WDDM driver is much easier to install since it dont need safe mode

My method isn't as much work, because how long would you take to configure an entire OS, update it, install and configure all your applications on it, etc, compared to just taking a few files from a new install?
Plus, his problem is that he wants to use WDDM, but can't because the old D3D somehow broke DX. That's why a restore of those files is in order.
