Windows xp freeze by shooting down

Sometimes windows xp freezes by restarting the WM, the last two times was when the updater asked to reboot the computer. It just "freeze" by the screen "Windows is shooting down please don't turn off your computer", what instead you have to do because otherwise it'll stay there forever.
