The selected virtual machine is inaccessible.., etc.[Solved]

Post by gftd »

Linux host, WinXP guest. After upgrading to vbox 4.18, I tried to install the 4.18 guest additions which resulted in the following error messages when I try to launch the WinXP guest: "The selected virtual machine is inaccessible," "Cannot attach medium '/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso',"..."medium is already associated with the current state of machine uuid...," "Result Code: VBOX_E_OBJECT_IN_USE (0x80BB000C)."

I'm stuck and don't know what to do next. Can anybody help?

Thanks.

If you can not release the CD/DVD from the media manager you can edit the *.vbox file to remove the line associated with the CD/DVD VBoxAdditions.iso.

Backup the file first in case you make a mistake.

Are these the lines you're referring to? If so, do I delete all three lines or just the one in the middle?

<DVDImages>
<Image uuid="{7da491be-6748-4c73-817e-c13aeb31dc1a}" location="/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso"/>
</DVDImages>

Thanks.

<Image uuid="{7da491be-6748-4c73-817e-c13aeb31dc1a}" location="/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso"/>
</DVDImages>

Only delete the one in red.
