Is Solaris the fastest, most efficient host for Sun X2270

Post by hanif001 »

Soon getting some new Sun x86 server hardware (2 cpu, 48Gb ram, 2Tb). Whilst I can imagine the default OS recommended for Sun Fire X2270 will be Solaris X86 64 bit.
But I am wondering if Solaris is the best host or have you had better experience with Windows 2008 or Oracle Linux 5/6 host OS?
I would like to use the server as a development machine, but to also to host a couple Oracle Linux Vbox instances to create a Weblogic cluster for testing.

If you want to develop, then Solaris 11 is the best OS. Because it has DTrace, which is unique. Several Linux developers have switched to Solaris, just to get DTrace. It is not like Systemtap, which is crap. DTrace is unique and much better. You can see everything going ong.

Read this to get the main idea about DTrace. It is about PHP, but there are Java bindings and other programming languages as well.

There are other examples of DTrace and programming languages.
