Vega USB 2.0 Camera Windows driver showing up on OSX 10.6.8

Post by Lou Cipher »

For the life of me I can't figure this out and have been searching and trying for over 5 months and just decided to try you guys...I tried the Apple forum almost 2 months ago however that advice has not yielded me any luck. I tried using EasyFind to search for any instance of this in .plists or any other files and I deleted them all and still no luck - LOL! Sheeesh...glad I have a sense of humour...

So, my iChat and Skype accounts are pulling up a "Vega USB2.0 Camera" made by Vimicro when in fact I am using a Macally webcam that does not require a driver.

Consequently, the video does not work and only the mic on the web cam does.

I seem to remember a long time ago trying to use my Dlink webcam DSB 320 or DSB 110 (I think) and/or my Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 webcam to try and use it with my Windows XP guest on Mac OS X via VirtualBox.

So, I am wondering...do you think there is any chance that somehow VirtualBox placed this driver on the Mac OS X side somehow...?

There is no uninstall app and I can not even find a Mac driver for it...nor do I want one. I want to use my Macally driver and they say it should show up with "Macally" as the name of the driver.

I simply want to know how does the operating system pull up the available webcam driver options so that I can go to that location and delete them so that my Macally webcam will work.

I already looked in /system/receipts and the Kext files and the .plist files...this is a TOUGH ONE!

VirtualBox sees the Macally as a USB device made by "Vimicro Corp. Vega USB2.0 Camera [0100]" so VirtualBox is pulling this info from SOMEWHERE and I can not figure out where because perhaps if I did I could delete the damn driver and finally get my Macally camera working.

The strange thing is that the camera was working fine last January and then something happened and I am not sure what...I've been racking my brains!

Any high tech advice out there...?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Lou
