Kernel Problem for Vb on Mac OS. Please help.

Post by shiftshifter »

Hi Everyone,

I'm new in personally installing VirtualBox. Our school already has them installed in our computer laboratories so I don't have to worry about it. However, I'm trying to install VB on my Mac for me to use Linux OS as guest. I downloaded the software from the Oracle website then installed it as per instructions. I then installed Ubuntu 11.10 afterwards then everything was okay. After using it, I then closed the Ubuntu session. However, when I tried to open Ubuntu on VB again, I'm not able to start it. It shows the following error messages:

Failed to open a session for virtual machine Ubuntu.
The virtual machine 'Ubuntu' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1.

Another error window shows with the message:

Kernel driver not installed (rc = -1908)
Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully.

Please help me with this. I don't know what to do anymore. I already tried creating a bootable USB for the Ubuntu however I'm also experiencing problems with that.

Thanks in advance.

That's exactly the message I just mentioned -- I'd tried booting the Mac in safe mode.

I've also seen a kernel driver error message once earlier with other problems.
For that I eventually had to reinstall VirtualBox (and then re-add the VMs, they survive but aren't found automatically after reinstalling).

Make sure your guest additions are the same version number as your VBox install if you change versions.

And I"m a complete novice here, you may want to wait for someone who knows something to reply!

  • RAM: 8GB

Running Mac OS X 10.7.2, quad-core intel Power Mac, 10GB ram and I too am getting the same error when I attempt to start a virtual OS:

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)
DETAILS:
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
Machine
Interface:
IMachine {5eaa9319-62fc-4b0a-843c-0cb1940f8a91}

I'm also getting an error when I attempt to change the settings of a virtual OS:

!Failed to access the USB subsystem. Could not load the Host USB Proxy service: VERR_GENERAL_FAILURE.

DETAILS
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x00004005)

Callee:
IMachine {5eaa9319-62fc-4b0a-843c-0cb1940f8a91}

NOTES
When I first install VirtualBox, it works totally fine. However, as soon as I RESTART my computer and attempt to perform either of the actions above I get the errors respectively. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and every time it works until restart.

I've tried both versions 4.0.12 and 4.1.6 and they both produce the same result.

Please help! Thanks.
