I'm running VB 4.1.6 (with Guest Additions) on a 2009 MBP with OS 10.7.2 (Lion). I have WinXP Pro SP2 as a guest OS, and am experimenting with gaming in this environment. I have an old pre-Steam "Game of the Year" edition of Half-Life installed, and while I've gotten the game to work under OpenGL, I'm having trouble with mouse control. In every other circumstance my mouse works just fine in VB under Windows. Even in the in-game Half-Life main menu, the mouse works without any glitches. Once the game starts, however, the mouse control goes haywire, and my POV spins around randomly, making the game unplayable. The same issue seems to occur when I attempt to navigate in the 3D window of Hammer (the Half-Life map editor).
I've tried switching between mouse drivers in the Windows Control Panel settings to no avail. I normally use a MS wireless-RF mouse, but also tried an old wired MS mouse instead, and the problem remained. Is this just some weird bug related to OpenGL (in)compatiblity?
Anyone have suggestions?

Re: Gaming Mouse Control Issue
Better use Bootcamp/XP for gaming. VMs are not made for this.

Re: Gaming Mouse Control Issue
I know gaming is better served via Bootcamp -- I have a BC partition on my MBP. However, I'm curious to see how feasible VB is for older games. I have a large library of near-"vintage" (10+ years old) DOS and Windows games, and I'd like to revisit them while spending as little time as possible in Windows itself. I'm actually rather impressed at the high fps in the original Half-Life; there's not much of a speed hit in VB. I'd just like to see if I can get the mouse issue dealt with, or at least hear from someone who knows why the mouse doesn't function properlystefan.becker wrote:Better use Bootcamp/XP for gaming.

Re: Gaming Mouse Control Issue
No help possible. If the guest additions are installed properly and hosts vga driver is the newest one, then there is nothing else you can do instead of playing native.
