Hi,
I recently started using Vbox (version 4.1.6 r74713) for the first time on a Macbook pro (early 2011) running OS X 10.7.2 with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (from the bootcamp partition). Everything works perfectly except that I can't watch DVDs using any of the media players (VLC, GOM player, WMP) I have inside Windows.
When I watch other media files (such as AVI), I am not having similar problems but, with DVDs, sometimes I get the audio but I could never get the video. When I boot to the bootcamp partition, I don't have any problems with DVDs. Obviously, everything also works from the OS X side.
I have installed the guestadditions...
Here is a link to how a DVD looks like with VLC. (This is a screencap of the DVD Menu screen. Playing the video gives me a blank screen) :

My first post here.
Thanks.

Longface! I like this film
If guest additions are installed and 3D in the guest settings is enabled, then there is nothing else you can do.
Remember, that VGA/3d in a guest is made for Office and not for Games/Multimedia.
Best Solution is Bootcamp and play Videos native.

Either watch the DVD using the Host (I can't believe OSX would not have a proper DVD playing software available), or just enable passthrough for the virtual drive in the VM settings, when using the physical drive itself as source. It's not a magic maker, but may work to solve your issues. Else you just have to cope with it and watch DVDs on the Host.

Hi!
I have a similar problem, when I try to watch TV with my USB DVB-T-Stick. I only have a framerate of maybe 10 fps. 3d is enabled... I think there are some problems with video rendering, but I don't know how to solve it.

You have a different issue. Most likely the speed of the USB is not enough. You must have the extpack installed to get USB2.0 as option, but even that is not the full speed that USB2.0 can provide, due to the virtualisation overhead.

No... Extension Pack is installed and I have USB 2.0. Copying files on my USB drive works (not very very fast, but it's ok). I think the speed is enough, it has to be a problem with video rendering...

Thanks for your advice. I installed Directx 3d support but it did not help. Is DVD passthrough the same as choosing the Host Drive in 'Devices / CD/DVD Devices' from the bottom toolbar menu? I was doing that and that wasn't working.
Unfortunately, none of the native OS X video players are letting me to watch a DVD in fast motion with sound. Btw, if anyone is wondering where the 'longface' came from, it is the Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Hitchcock - 1941) DVD.

Then use Windows via Boot Camp. Forget Multimedia in a Guest. Max work in some scenarios, but not comparable to native access.
