Convert dedicated server to virtual machine

Post by ivang »

I'm completly new with virtualbox and would like to use it to use it as a development box (like much other users I suppose).
We have a dedicated server with Ubuntu 10 and since we're going to introduce very big changes in the website and databases,
we want to convert it into a virtual machine, do the tests and changes and if it works fine, replicate it to the production server
(or perhaps convert it from virtual to real box).

How can I convert the real machine to a virtual one?

Thank you very much in advance

You should search using the terms p2v for physical to virtual and v2p the other direction. Plenty has been discussed here about it.

example: p2v site:forums.virtualbox.org in Google

Three letter searches do not work directly with phpBB, so use Google or just about any other search engine with the above phrase.

Thank you very much for giving me the correct name convention to make the searches.
