USB doesn't work
Hey,
I'm using Virtualbox 4.1.6 and installed the extension pack.
So after that typed "sudo usermod -a -G voxboxusers username" in the terminal. But windows (windows 7) still doesn't see any USB Device
I looked up so many FAQs and stuff but I couldn't find any answer, what am I doing wrong? Can anyone help

Re: USB doesn't work
Just in case what you typed above is really what you typed.
Replace <your username> with the name you use to log in. Type your user password when prompted.
You *MUST* logout and back in to the host after permissions are changed before they take effect.
Code: Select all
sudo usermod -aG vboxusers <your username>You *MUST* logout and back in to the host after permissions are changed before they take effect.

Re: USB doesn't work
That is what I was really referring to it is vboxusers and the fact that you must log off and in for permissions to take effect.voxboxusers

Re: USB doesn't work
type id in a terminal will tell you if you are really in the vboxusers group.
Also VBoxManage list extpacks tells you if the Extension Pack is really installed/installed properly.

Re: USB doesn't work
so i used that, i typed in vbox instead of voxbox, loged out and on again, still doesn't work,
when i type in id, i get this:
"uid=1000(jack) gid=1000(jack) groups=4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),46(plugdev),105(lpadmin),119(admin),122(sambashare),123(vboxusers),1000(jack)"
does it mean i am in it? I'm sorry I'm a total noobie with linux but i don't want to switch back to windows as the main system.
in settings I can set a filter, do I have to do that? oh and virtualbox manager show that the extension is correctly installed

Re: USB doesn't work
You shouldn't need any filters. Did you reboot the host or log out and back in?

Re: USB doesn't work
1) Post the results of VBoxManage list usbhost from the hosts terminal
2) Make sure that you have enabled the USB2 section in the guest settings.
3) Post the guests log file (as an attachment)

In the main manager click on machine and then show log. Click save and post as an attachment.
