Problem with starting application

Post by atengesdal »

Hi,

I am using an application called iSite through work, the application is an iDirect company application. I am testing out if I can run this application through Linux, using Wine, but that did not work. Last known version is iSite12.
The funny thing is:
When I try to run this application from a regular PC running XP SP3, I have absolutely no problems. I don't even have to run it as administrator.

When running the application from a Virtual box running XP, the application fails to initialize (for your record, I have even tested out using VMWare player and the same thing happens there). The only thing I have discovered so far, is that when I right click the files (all related to the program) and go to properties, the files seems to be "locked", but when I remove the Read Only, and unlock all files, ensure I run it as Administrator and make sure I have read/write (and even root priviliges in Linux as host), the application still won't initialize....
Any suggestions here would be highly appreaciated!

Thanks,

Where are its files located? inside a VDI or via a share on a linux partition from the Host ?
Create a second VDI harddisk for your Guest and run it from there with all the files.

Hi!
Ref your question "Where are its files located? inside a VDI or via a share on a linux partition from the Host ?"
I tried both, meaning downloading and running from VDI, and also from linux partition share, neither did work, and clearly by looking at file properties some sort of file security measurements was the problem.
Your suggestion with creating a secondary virtual HD did indeed solve the problem! Now I can run the application without any problems, thanks a lot!

Cheers,

Arve
