Windows 7 - CentOS 6 LAMP Server

Post by jtt89 »

Can somebody give me an idea how to set everything up and make it work together:

1) Install VirtualBox
2) Install CentOS 6
3) Install Guest Additions (for better graphic, mouse, etc..., integration)
4) Install Apache

yum install httpd

5) Install PHP

yum install php php-pear php-mysql

6) Install MySQL

yum install mysql-server

7) ?

I was looking at some tutorials on how to set up LAMP and dev server on Windows with Virtual Box but it does not seem to work together. I am talking about things like changing hostname on Linux, modifying config files (/etc/sysconfig/network, /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf), choosing appropriate settings in Virtual Box -> Network settings (NAT, Desktop, Server etc), adding addtional files to /username/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml in Windows 7 etc
If somebody could tell me the additional steps that would probably save me some time... (maybe not even the exact commands, but the most basic way to get it to work etc)
Thank you.

You are at the wrong place.

I think the configuration of a server is not a topic from this board.

All we can say is give the guest a bridged network adapter. All other things you have to google for or ask in linux server forum.

I tried to change to Bridge and Intel PRO/1000 MT Server, but I switched back to NAT, because I did not have access to the Internet from Linux. Does Bridge mean that I am gonna have access from Win7 to Linux on Virtual Box and from Linux on VB to the Internet (...and from Win7 to the Internet)?

Bridge mean, that the guest is member of the network. It gets an IP-adress from the router. Do you have a router?

I think I dont. I just have that basic Motorolla cable modem from ISP connected to a desktop computer through an ethernet port (dynamic IP)

OK. This way Bridged does not work.

Do you want the host is able to access the lamp server?

I would like to be able to:

1) Connect to the Linux server (Apache, MySQL etc) on Virtual Box from Windows 7 (browser, ftp, ssh etc)
2) Connect from Linux on Virtual Box to the Internet
3) Connect from Windows 7 to the Internet

All at the same time...

You will need to give the vm two NICs. Configure one as Host Only (to communcate with the host) and the other as NAT (to communicate with the Internet).

To communicate with the guest from the host, use its 192.168.56.x address.
