Problem with reading the virtual CD

Post by RaiMat9 »

Hi!

I have a W7 x64 bit system and the software I want to run goes only for XP x32.
I have installed a virtual box and windows xp x32 in it. I enabled it to see the disc inserted to my CD drive. The disc has an .ISO image of my software burnt on it. When I install everything is ok, then while I want to start it up, a communicate appears, that it's checking for the original CD, after a couple of minutes: insert the original CD. The same if I try to open the image by mounting into Daemon.
What can I do, what do you suggest?

I'd appreciate any help!
Thanks! :)

Try enabling the passthrough feature of the virtual CD/DVD in the storage section of the guest settings.

Why did you burn an ISO to a physical disk? The vm can read an ISO directly. Simply attach the ISO file to the virtual CD drive in the guest.

Hey!
I tried both, running just the image from a file and also running an image burned on a CD. I also tried to enable passthrough, but still the same message.. it was by the way no problem with the installation, but I cannot run it anyway.
Is there maybe some other solution that might help?

Thanks!

Is this an ISO copy of a copyrighted CD? I believe some CDs have copy protection features, i.e. the old trick of having a deliberate bad sector. If you manage to copy the CD then the copy has a good sector in place of the bad one. The install program checks for the bad sector and doesn't find it. If that's what's going on here then there's nothing you can do without the original CD.

Yes, it is an ISO of a copyrigthed CD.I'd like to be able to launch the program on my computer without the need to insert every time the CD, taking it with me everywhere. Is there some other way to do that?

Thanks!

If the software insists on the actual, physical CD being present then we probably can't help you.
