Windows XP SP3 Guest crashes with newer Extensions

Hi,
my system is a Windows 7 64 Bit host, VBox 4.1.6.
My Guest OS is Win XP Pro with SP3 and following installed.
It boots normal if the Extensions are 3.2.12.
If I install all other following Extensions, the Guest OS does not boot anymore, it ends up in a BSOD with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (Stopp 0xA), or it ends up in a BSOD with Page Fault in non paged area (stopp 0x50).
If I go back to the snapshot with contents before updating the Extensions, everything is ok and system boots again and can be used normally.
I did see this since 3.2.x but I always hoped that Oracle will solve this regarding the newer Extension Packs.
Where to look at in log files?
What to eliminate in the installation of ext-packs?
Any idea?
The installation of extensions 4.1.6 in Windows Small Business Server 2003 is ok, so I upgraded all the time to latest version since 3.2.x and did not care as the Win XP Pro VM is not that important, but should work anyhow.

Have you tried uninstalling the previous extension pack before installing the newer one? I had a similar issue a long while back. Now I always uninstall the existing extension pack before upgrading to a newer VBox version. I haven't had any issues installing extension packs since doing it that way.

If you mean the Guest Additions or GAs (*), then please say so, as "Extension Pack" is something else entirely, and confusion is a likely result. The GAs are installed in the guest, the extension pack is installed in the VirtualBox app on the host.

(*) which you probably do, since 3.x didn't have an extension pack, but did have GAs.

Hi,
@mpack: sorry, you're right, I am talking about the Guest Additions (GAs). Trying to install them in Guest Windows XP. The installation of the extension pack in VMBox Manager worked liked a charm.

@Etepetete: Are you talking about GAs or Extension Pack (as Version 3.x did'n have them, dorrect mpack...)? I did not find a way to uninstall Extension Pack.
I tried uninstalling the GAs from the Guest OS, and it told me to reboot, which I did. The following restart ended up in a BSOD in the Guest OS. Only way to start that point of the Guest OS was the secure mode (don't knot the correct word as I use a German Version).
After going back to the snapshot which works (Win XP Pro SP3 + old GAs), I tried to uninstall the GAs and not to restart, but the installation of the new GAs did see the uninstall and denied to install, so a reboot is required but ends up in BSOD.

What next with the system? What else can I try?
My last idea is to transfer data from the one VM to another NEW VM.

Details of the BSOD might be useful. To see them clearly you may have to turn off the Windows feature which causes an automatic reset on a BDOD. To do that you start up in safe mode (which is the English term for what you called secure mode), go to My Computer | Advanced tab | Startup and Recover button and uncheck the "Automatically restart" checkbox.

The details of BSOD are:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(then the text about what to do...)
and as technical info:
STOP: 0x0000000A (0x7FFDA000, 0x0000000A, 0x00000001, 0x805AFBE1)

I think I have searched for the minidump.dmp file last time, but it did not exist. I'll do so again and tell what was the contents if I find such a file. The configuration said it should place a minidump-file into the directory %systemroot%/minidump, but there wasn't any directory/file.
