Hi
I'm trying to connect my keyence KV-40R PLC with my HP laptop (windows7) trough an USB-serialconverter (prolifictechn inc) but.....
my story:
I installed virtualbox(+usb ext pack) than installed xp in it: no problem
downloaded the USB serialconverter driver and installed it in virtualXP: no problem
So I startup laptop> virtualbox> xp, than I connect the PLC with USB-SERIAL with laptop.
I hoover on the usb icon rightbelow in virtualbox and get a popup "No USB device connected"
I rightclick the usb icon rightbelow in virtualbox en hoover on PROLIFIC TECHNOLGY INC. USB-SERIAL CONVERTER CONTROLLER[0300].
and get a popup: supplierID 067B;productID 2303;revision 0300;status:available so I click it
So it gets a V and hoovering it, it says status:captured
In XP nothing seems to happen. no message "found new hardware"? (wich it does on my XP desktop so the device is OK)
So, starting ladder builder, I can't connect my PLC
working with a USBstick on "virtual XP" gives no problem
Can Somebody help me with this please?

Re: usb serialcontroller not in XP
Add the device in the USB Device Filters in Settings.
Reboot the host - start the guest - if device is busy repeat the boot - then it should work.

Re: usb serialcontroller not in XP
Thank you for the reply but...
I followed your leads and now the usb device gets directly captured but stills seems not to be active in XP.
Alltough I hear a DONG DING/ DING DONG when I connect/disconnect the usb device and in"XP" the mouse pointer blinks a moment, so something does happens in XP.
Is there a way in XP to see what USB device is connected?
Thank you

GA installed in the Guest? those 2 yellow items should not be there and can be very well the serial driver issue.

Re: usb serialcontroller not in XP
What do you mean with GA?
While searching/trying I found in a mac forum the remark: change in VB settings the device filter in an emty filter.
I don't know if this is the reason but thereafter I found my device in XP devicemanager in the ports treath: COM3
I changed this in COM1 and now I can get connected with my PLC. Not exactly as it should but's probably a setting that needs adjustment.
Thank you very much for the assistance. It surely led my to the right direction

Re: usb serialcontroller not in XP
GA = Guest Additions, details in manual.
However, GAs are not needed for USB to work - USB is done using virtual hardware, not a GA driver. I know because I have USB working in a Win98SE VM, which doesn't have GA support.

Re: usb serialcontroller not in XP
Looks like a Prolific driver problem.
A good way to check things is to have the device manager in both host and quest open concurrently and follow whats going on when the device is connected and disconnected.
