error message related to storage settings

Post by sansari »

I get the following error message when I try to run Fedora:
unable to mount root fx
My host machine is Windows 7, and I run Virtual Box version: 4.1.6
I believe I have the same problem as it is described here:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=33190
In my storage settings I have IDE Controller - Empty, and a SATA controller - connected to the VDI file that I was given. I believe I have to change my storage settings. Any help on how to change, and what to change it to is greatly appreciated.

I also want to share an image, and don't know how to load screen captures into my posts.

Thanks

Without the full error message, we can't help you. From what I can decipher out of it, it sounds like the Guest OS is unable to mount it's root file system. That doesn't sound like a VB problem to me. Google it and you will find how to solve it. It does require a LIve CD and some terminal knowledge.

Meaning someone else did the installation and made a copy for you? If the copy was a clone made, for example, using "VBoxManage clonehd" then this can change the UUID embedded in the header, which upsets some Linux guests.

To share an image, simple make a JPG and use the "Upload attachment" tab near the bottom of the post entry dialog.
