After reading some posts, I think the problem is that something isn't set right. So let me ask:
I'm running virtualbox v4.1.2 Ubuntu r38459 on Kubuntu 11.10.
Virtualbox seems to work, but I can't install XP from a CD yet. When I press 'start' it says: FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium.
Do you install XP though virtualbox, from a physical CD? Or am I missing something?
Right now I've removed all virtual OSes so I'll have to click NEW to do anything.

Re: FATAL could not read from the boot medium
If the install media is not corrupt, faulty, or in fact not bootable, you should be able to install it from the hosts CD/DVD or as an ISO attached to the virtualCD/DVD.
