Virtual Box Question with respect to vzctl (Add IPAdress)

Hi,

You can add an ip address to an OpenVZ container using the "vzctl set <vps-name> --ipadd xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx --save".

Can the same be achieved using VBoxManage or can adding/changing the IP address of the Virtual Machine(guest) be done only after starting the vm and accessing the terminal on the running guest OS. ?

hmmm... we have GuestExecute... it can change IP, but cannot remember/save the settings, so it is less powerful than OpenVZ commands...

See VBox docs "4.7. Guest control"

(other virtualizers, that I know of, are incapable of doing anything like this at all)

Hi,
I had read about Guest Control, and the IP Config could be changed with that, but that would require the VM to be running.
Using vzctl, it can be done before starting the container.

True.
There is no equivalent.

GuestControl is like "vzctl exec".

VBox also lacks interactive shell (like "vzctl enter"). Would be nice to see this someday developed...
Still "GuestControl" is quite good. Competition (except OpenVZ) doesn't have even this.
