I am trying to install centos 6.0 (x86_64) on my Mac. I got this error.
kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot...
My MacBook Pro has a processer Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.8 GHz. I bought in Decemeber, 2008. Does this machine support 64 bit guest os?

Thanks!

Try holding the 6 & 4 key down at MAC boot.

That trick doesn't work for all machines, and there is a piece of software that will help: http://www.ahatfullofsky.comuv.com/Engl ... S/SMS.html

Solution given by perryg worked for me until my next reboot.

However the following blog gives permanent solution for this issue
