Win7 Resultion on Ubuntu Host

Post by Jordan »

Hi,

I can change the resolution of Win7 guest to 5 different resolutions, but none of them fit to my working requirements. I installed guest additions and I tried to change resolution manually via registry, but it tooks one of the 5 selectable the resolutions. Is there a way to increase the number of selectable resolutions or a costum resolution like 1800x1000 to prevent working in full screen/scaled modus?

Have you tried just using the mouse click and drag to change the size?

Thanks for your answer!

You mean the scaled modus? Yes I tried, but I use this mashine for PaintShop and some Adobe software, so I need to see the exact size and positions of pixels. :)

When in a virtual environment you do not set the guests size from within the guest. Since it is all virtual the size would not be reported properly nor will it work most of the time.

You can set custom screen resolutions. See chapter 9.7.2 Configuring the maximum resolution of guests when using the graphical frontend in your VirtualBox users manual
You can also read Chapter 8 VBoxManage and find the rest of the custom settings.

I tried to send a video hint, but its not working, I typed

VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/MaxGuestResolution any

&

VBoxManage controlvm Win setvideomodehint 1920 1080 24

...no response. Are these the right commands?

//Edit

Forgot to install Guest Additions inside VM after reinstalling :lol: Both commands work now!

Thanks for the Help!

Should be. the controlvm is when the guest is actually running.
