Hello all...
How do you configure VirtualBox to use port LPT1?
All I see is for COM1 - COM4
I have a device attached to LPT1 on the host machine and I would like to get my Windows guest to use it

There is no support for lpt.
Try sharing printer over network, if its for a printer.

Yea I figured as much after reading some other posts.
I am actually trying to use a dongle attached to a parallel port
Using LPT not only for printer

There's some applications that would use the printer port, but not for printing.
The lack of LPT support renders VITRUALBOX useless for those.
I ended up in using VIRTUAL PC from Microsoft, where you don't have USB, but LPT support.

One way to get lpt support might be to enable vrdp, then use rdesktop and forward the local parallel port. I haven't tested this, but I know the help for rdesktop-vrdp lists the syntax for forwarding parallel ports.

I want tu use Virtualbox on Kubuntu Hardy, because there is no driver for my Mustek 12000P scanner in Linux available.
It's a pity that I have to use Windows OS as the host. This scanner needs a // port
That is really a big drawback, which I do not understand.
Why not make a parallel port available.

I found a solution. My host is Windows 7x64 and the Virtual Machine is XPx32.
I have a printer Lexmark 2381 connect to LPT1.
In XPx32 Virtual Machine I installed the printer.
Next step, I create a local port : \\<nameWindow7PC>\Sharenamedprinter in properties of Printer and work fine !!!

in case anybody with old DOS host stumble on this problem and get to this thread:
The solution is to enable serial port (say, COM1). If you actually have the COM device on your host, set the Port Mode to Host Device. Otherwise, set it to Raw File and put a valid file name on Port/File path.
On the DOS box prompt, redirect the LPT1 port to COM1. You can use MODE command like the following:
You'll have LPT1 in your DOS host Virtual box.
