Hi,

I've read many postings concerning using the VPN with VirtualBox, even though I couldn't really figure out how it works.

I'm running a Windows 7 x64 host system and a CentOS 5.6 guest system using VirtualBox 4.1.0.
On the host, I have a working and running VPN connection using Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.

So, what is the correct way now to access this VPN connection from the guest OS?
Bridging to the VPN adapter? using NAT? Which additional settings do I have to use?

Only with NAT your guest can use this vpn.

ok, this means I start the VPN - connection, afterwards I start the Vbox with a NAT - network - adapter and then it should already work?!

It should work, you might have to set and use 'the vpn gateway' as well.

I have pretty much a similar config :
Windows 8 64 bit host with Cisco AnyConnect in it and a Ubuntu 12.10 guest.
I'm using NAT for the guest.
When the AnyConnect is off the guest boots up and properly discovers my DNS config (adds a search with my ISP's domain etc) and DNS queries work in the guest.

However when I connect to the VPN with the AnyConnect client the DNS configuration is wrong. it still points to the local dnsmasq, but it's not working.
So now I have no other option but manually edit my /etc/resolv.conf with my AnyConnect's connection DNS servers.
It works, but it's really annoying to have to do it on each boot :/

Your issue is not related to Virtualbox at all, but how the AnyConnect is handling Linux configuration for the VPN link. You should seek support on Cisco forum.
