Difference between an *.ova file and a *.ovf file?

Post by leeand00 »

I'm trying to export a Virtual Machine I have on VirtualBox so I can back it up, and when I went to export it, I was prompted with a "Save As..." dialog that asks me if I want to save it as a .ovf or an .ova file.

What is the difference between these two formats?

One format makes it a single file export, as where the other puts the VM settings in an separate file and the VDI in a VMDK image. Did you read the manual to see what the difference is? It is described there.

Just answer the persons question. No need to chastise. I been using linux for 6 mo and love it but the most frustrating part is finding answers to question. A lot of forums assume the person asking the question has more experience, even with forums than they did when they started.... I was looking for an answer to the same question and VirtualBox FAQ didn't quite answer it. We're all newbies at some point.

Let's not get started off on the wrong foot. The question was answered along with the instruction to read the manual. If however you don't understand perhaps you should ask you question in detail.
