Problems uploading on Vista Guest

Hello all,

I am using VirtualBox to allow me to run a PC only program that we use to run our website, called Actinic.
We had to change our system to Macs so this seemed to be a good option, however, I am unable to upload the data to the sites FTP server as it just times out.

I know all of the details are correct, and it starts the process fine, it just does not seem to be able to hold the connection to the FTP and it seems to be the large picture files which are causing the process to time out.

Could someone perhaps guide me through a way to change some settings with the way i've set Vista up to fix this issue?
The Host computer is a new Mac OS Lion, and the Guest is a Windows Vista.

Any help would be greatly appreciated its driving me (and probably my website creators) crazy.

Many thanks,

Peter

You had to choose the most memory and resource intensive operating system you could for a guest.
The best advice I can give you (other than changing guests) is to make sure you use Bridged mode, and the paravirtual adapter.
Drivers are Here

Hello Perryg,

Thanks for the reply, i'm not really having much joy with the driver, if I was to change the guest, which would you say my best option would be?

I think I could use Win7 or XP, as I have the discs for both of these OS'. One would assume the older OS would use less resources?

After making that choice, perhaps you could tell me the most effective way of setting the system up so that it has the best chance of working as I need.

again, thank you very much for the assistance.

Peter

My first choice would be Linux server as it is designed for what you are wanting to do. It already has the paravirtualized drivers built in, and uses far less resources than a desktop OS. If you need a desktop I would use Debian wheezy. Now if you must stay with Windows then of course XP would require less resources but will only be around for a few more years. Windows 7 uses less than Vista by far but you need to forget the 3D or Aero as this will just get in your way.

Hmm, I don't really want to have issues with the program as well, so its probably best I stick with a windows format, assuming I go with Windows 7, I guess its still going to be best using the bridged driver as mentioned before, I will try setting this up tomorrow and see where I get!

Hello,

It seems either I set the thing up much better this time, or windows 7 itself has fixed the issue.
It seems to be working fine now!

Thanks very much for the input and help.

its made this Friday a much better start to the weekend that's for sure!
