Managing multiple usbs on multiple Vm

Post by akiani88 »

Hi,

I am trying to connect 4 usbs on my server and for each usb I am running virtual instances of virtual box running windows xp. In total 4 VMs on my server. I want to configure each usb for each virtual instance. Even though I set each instance for specific usb through the settings. Only the first VM machine manages to recognize the hardware connected and the other three VM do not even recognize any hardware connected to the server. When I close the first instance of VM, thats when the second instance recognizes the usbs connected and remaining two VMs do not. Is there a way to solve this problem? If yes could anyone please guide me? I am looking to run usb on each VM instance seperately and simultaneously.

Thanks,

The USB passthrough feature is not a shareable interface. Two PCs can't use one physical USB port at the same time. If you want multiple PCs to have apparant simulataneous access then you'll need to set up some kind of third party network share, details of which (if possible at all) will depend on the nature of the USB device: e.g. shared folder on a USB stick? No problem. Shared wireless dongle? Maybe a problem.
