Forced Quitting Pattern

I've been running VB now for a couple of months and there is a repeating pattern that I'd like help in eliminating.

Frequently, I click start on a VM, a window opens which is totally black and I get a perpetual spinning ball. Th VM does not load. The only way out of it is to do a forced quit of the app. The VB error message just says that the VM did not load. The status now on the particular VM is "aborted".

I then quit VB completely, relaunch it and then click start on the same VM as before. The window opens, I see the VB welcome screen and everything proceeds normally from this point. This pattern repeats frequently and seems to be independent of which VM I am starting.

I'm running VB on a macbook pro with 8 gigs of ram on the latest snow leopard OS. My VMs are Windows 7, Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.10. All suggestions are appreciated.
