WDDM 3d acceleration doesn't seem to be working...?

Host: Win7 x64
Guest: Win7 x86
Graphics card: NVidia Geforce 8600GT

I've set the guest settings to enable 3d acceleration, and installed the WDDM driver by answering 'no' when guest additions prompted to install the Direct3D driver. 'dxdiag' confirms that the driver is installed (driver vboxdispd3d.dll; DDI version 9Ex; driver model: WDDM 1.0) and that 3D acceleration is working.

But I can't seem to enable Aero, and none of the demos from the DirectX SDK produces any visible output.

Any suggestions?

Please post the log of the VM where you try to enable Aero and post the VM settings. Either use the command prompt with VBoxManage showvminfo --details, or enumerate them one by one.

What do you get when you try to play a Windows game, like Solitaire?

Do you have a recent version of the NVidia driver in the host? My 440GT will do Aero in the guest with the latest driver (280.26, should be the same one for 8600GT) but there are still a few problems. It is not hard to crash the browser when switching tabs.

I have 270.41.06 on my Ubuntu 11.04 and WDDM works, so if there is a problem somewhere, it can be anywhere or anything.
