USB on window client guest not working

Hi All, I'm rather new to this so hoping you can provide guidance...did some research and tried to fix the prob but still same
I'm running ubuntu 10.04 version with Virtualbox 4.1.4....got through everything in terms connectivity etc and can get a session on my windows laptop no probs but usb not working..

Basically I'm opening an RDP session from windows xp laptop connecting to the 'server' which is running windows xp guest...and when followed the usb suggestions (using free capture then switching off and on again etc) nothing changed/worked

so would anyone have a suggestion on how to get usb working on my xp laptop which is running the virtual guest through rdp?

Install the Extension Pack, How to install Extension Pack
Make sure your <user name> is in the vboxusers group on the host.
Minimum of logoff for permissions to change.

Hi there, I did install the extension pack...i'm guessing this is to be installed on the server right? also not sure how to add the user name to vboxusers group...could not find such group when entered the admin page...

Is the host a server or a desktop?

sorry should have said...the host is a hp server (quad processor) with ubuntu 10.04 workstation installed as main os...

When you install VirtualBox it should have created a vboxusers group. You can look in /etc/group to verify this.
If not you will need to create it.
Once created you can use the CLI to add the user to the group.

hi the usergroup is there and the admin of the server is a member of vboxusers however its stll not working...
when i start the rdp session starts fine but only detects usb on the host system and not on the virtual (the one i'm rdping to)....
what else could it be :?:

I don't know. I do not run any of my computers as root (admin).
This changes the permissions of VirtualBox and since I don't run as root I can't help.
