Can't run .iso file (please help)
Hey everyone,
Sorry if I make any language errors during this post (I'm from Holland).
I recently downloaded virtual box oracle 4.1.4 and wanted to tryout windows 8 (preview).
When I came to the point of starting the machine it gave me this error while trying to open the .iso file.
(VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED)
Result code:
VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80BB0005)
Component:
Medium
Interface:
IMedium {53f9cc0c-e0fd-40a5-a404-a7a5272082cd}
Callee:
IVirtualBox {c28be65f-1a8f-43b4-81f1-eb60cb516e66}
I hope someone can help me with this,
Peter H

Re: Can't run .iso file (please help)
Windows 8 requires hardware virtualization be enabled even on 32 bit hosts.
If you are sure that you have VT-x/AMD capable system and that it is on in the bios then the next problem might be a faulty download of the iso.

Thanks for your fast reply Perryg,
How do I know if hardware virtualization is enabled?
And that my system is capable with VT-x/AMD?
I'm really thankful you're helping me with this!

You can check you cpu model and see if that supports hardware virtualization and then look in your bios and see if it has it in there.

Ok, I looked it up on the Intel website: http://ark.intel.com/products/35583/Int ... 9-Socket-P
But it didn't say anything about hardware virtualization, btw how do I look in my BIOS?
I know I'm not that good at this and I appreciate your help....

Not going to matter. This stops you cold. Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) No

Re: Can't run .iso file (please help)
Ok so that means I can't install windows 8?
Can I maybe use another virtual environment?
Thanks for the great support!

(is there a way I can give you a rating or something to get you higher in the community?)

Re: Can't run .iso file (please help)
I kind of doubt it. You have to remember this is a dev copy of win 8 and not even an alpha or beta. I have heard that the requirement of 64-bit or at least VT-x support was going to be the requirement even on metal. Of course you know how that goes.
