Hello,
I tried to enable USB controller on a 4.1.2 version of virtualbox and the machine asked me to install the Oracle VM Virtualbox extension pack but this only exists for version 4.1.4... any solutions?

Install VBox v4.1.4? It's the latest maintenance update of v4.1, so should be preferred over v4.1.2.
If that does not suit you then you can follow the "older builds" link on the downloads page (I just checked, the extensions are right there).

I updated the machine, installed the oracle pack and the guest still doesn't recognise the usb stick...

Does that mean you no longer get the original error message?
If so then you now have a different problem of getting the guest to work properly with USB: that has been discussed many times. Internal search does not work for short words, so use google to search for USB with "site:forums.virtualbox.org" you should find a lot of information that way.

Thank you!
