Some programs can't open files in shred folders

Post by zmn »

Autocad 2005 can't open files in VBoxSharedFolderFS filesystem.
When i try open file, autocad can't find it on vbox network disk.

subst didn't solve problem.

Any ideas to solve this problem (maybe change FS to NTFS instead VBoxSharedFolderFS)?? (except network disks)

maybe I found solve of this problem:

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>vboxmanage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename d:\hdd.vmdk -rawdisk \\.\physicaldrive0

but warning:
-----------------------------
WARNING: This is a development tool and shall only be used to analyse
problems. It is completely unsupported and will change in
incompatible ways without warning.
-----------------------------

how it practically??

interesting, that if file found in root of vboxsrv network disk - don't have this problem , but if file found deeper in folder - it can't be opened

how to be with network disks, that I share as shared folder? (i would not create network disks inside VM)
please help, and sory for my bad english

I think that using \\.\physicaldrive0 is bad idea.

Explorer can't see files, that was created in VM.

After chkdsk that files was fonded in found.000 directory.

I think that in the same time host and guest can't work togather with one partition. In other words, i need turn off physical drive (or partition) on host, in order to work whith it on guest.

Any suggestions??

Any "VBoxManage internalcommands" command is officially undocumented and unsupported, that is what the warning message means. However in this case you can ignore the warning because all it did was a one off task - creating a VMDK descriptor for a physical drive. Done, no further input from VBoxManage required, you don't care if functionality changes in future.

On the other hand, you should have taken notice of a stronger warning given the user manual, to the effect that what you are attempting to do (put two masters in charge of one disk) is likely to result in the destruction of all data on the drive. If I was you I would stop that immediately.

I recommend you investigate how to set up a true network share to a host folder, see if that works better than GA shared folders. You'll find plenty of info on google about how to set up a shared folder between two PCs. The VM network mode will have to be host-only or bridged for this to work. Let us know how you get on.
