XP and Vista refuse graphics Guest Additions.

I have XP on a virtual machine and tryed to install Guest Additions för 3D graphics. During the installation a box flashes, it is so fast that I cant see its content. The installation program says that the installation is complete and that I shall say no if Windows asks (the invisible box, I guess) if the system files should be reset.

When I reboot the guest addition for shared folders work, but the graphics addition is not installed. (The checkbox in the Guest Additions installation program is clear).

So I tryed this method to defeat Windows File Protection, and installed again:

But with the same result.

I also tryed to install Guest Additions on a Vista Buisness system, where I used this method to circumvent the User Account Control: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/53780 ... ike-in-xp/ , and the same thing happened.

Anyone have any ideas on this? My graphics card is an Asus EAH5850 and the host is Natty Narwahl.

What are the VM settings and what are you trying to do with the Guest Additions? The only reason when Windows would show a file protection dialogue is when you enable 3D in the installer, as that will overwrite some system files. Windows will restore them automatically when in normal mode, but won't when booted in safe mode and installing the GA there.
