error when trying to install w8 64 bit

i get the following error when trying to install w8 64 bit on my w7 64 bit machine (i5 2500k, 8 gb ram)

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine w8.

VT-x features locked or unavailable in MSR. (VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

anyone know what this means or has seen something like this?

You need to turn hardware virtualization on in your bios.
You will also see this if you have XP mode installed.
