Upgrade Windows Ext Pack from 4.1.2 to 4.1.4

I just did the VirtualBox 4.1.2 upgrade to 4.1.4 (for Mac OS X), including upgrading the
Windows Guest Additions Extension Pack. VirtualBox apparently did the extension pack upgrade properly
(4.1.4 appears in the extension list).

However, the Windows (XP SP3) guest reports 4.1.2 if I mouse-over the extension pack icon in
the system tray, if I look at VirtualBox's Machine Session Information, or if I look at Add or Remove Programs.

I'm pretty sure the right thing happened, though ... if I look at VirtualBox Guest Additions folder
on the running XP guest, the files are all dated 10/3/2011 and their version is 4.1.4.

So, I think VirtualBox did the right thing in its upgrade of the extension pack, but it is a bit
worrisome that 4.1.2 is being reported in various places.

Any insight into this?

I did this yesterday, and your description does not tally.

There are three steps.

1. Download and install the 4.1.4 update on the host.
2. Download and install the 4.1.4 extension pack on the host.
3. Update the guest additions in the guest. (This is what you see when you hover over the icon in the system tray).

No such animal exists.

The "Extension Pack" must be installed on the host, this is basically a plugin for the VirtualBox software itself which enables USB2, a closed source feature.

The "Guest Additions" is mostly a set of drivers to be installed inside the guest. It provides for such things as an integrated mouse, smoother graphics and so on.

3. Update the guest additions in the guest. (This is what you see when you hover over the icon in the system tray).

Thanks for the tip ... part (3) was the step I hadn't done ... hovering over the icon in the
system tray now reports 4.1.4.
