Evening,

I'm very new to Virtual Box, so far so good though. I have an old NT4 Server box to retire due to old hardware, good project for Virtualization.

My host OS - Windows XP Pro 32bit SP3
My Guest OS - Windows NT4 Server SP6a, have installed Task Scheduler/VNC and Microsoft simple IP.

I am running a VERY VERY VERY old dot matrix printer via an HP JETDIRECT IP box on Windows NT4 Server SP6a. I have run a test print and can print from the VirtualBox Windows NT to the dot matrix printer via the JETDIRECT IP box. The NT4 Epson printer is set up as shared.

I can see the shared printer by \\nt4server\printer from XP but cannot access the print share, even though the printer IS shared in NT and security permissons look correct.

The Network card in Virtual Box is in Bridged Mode. I can confirm that the PC's are on the same subnet as VirtualBox and can ping each other. I just need to be able to access the shared NT printer from the networked XP PC's by share name due to another old program!!

I can also confirm that I can see the NT Print share but not access the NT printer share from the Host PC where Virtual Box is installed. This sounds like i've not configured something in VirtualBox correctly or it's a Firewall issue somehow as a port by be required to be open???


Please could someone shed some light on this? I'm not an NT4 or Virtual Box expert.......

Did you check the evenlogs?

I have checked event logs in both the XP Host and VB Guest. I couldn't see anything that was helpfull?

Under security section, see if there are access denied entries.

I believe I have already checked and didn't see anything that looked wrong. I'll take a closer look.

If it is a tcpip(ntp) printer then you need to add it as such on other machines. Pre-w2k netbios was prevalent in accessing shares.
