Sorry if this question is rehashed or answered in the forums elsewhere, but I cant seem to find the answer to it either in the tutorials, manual or elsewhere.

I just installed VB 4.1.2. I have an older XP computer that recently died that I have slaved the HDD to my existing system to get file access. I would just like to Create an image of that HDD for use in VB so that I can boot the old system.

What software do I need to utilize to make the image of the older HDD so that I can create a guest with that image? VB is looking for various image types, however I cant see where I can make those image files from the VB manager.

Any help, direction or links to the specific threads would be most appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Jamie

Image the old drive using the free Disk2VHD tool (google for it).

That creates a VHD image, which although it can be used, is not ideal for VirtualBox. So next you use the CloneVDI tool (see sticky in "Windows Hosts" forum) to clone/convert the VHD to VDI, after which you can delete the VHD.

Search this site for mention of "P2V", because getting the disk image connected to a VM is only part of the story.

The information was perfect and i am on my way to getting the image done.

Thanks again!
