Problems installing Guest additions

I have Virtualbox 4.1.2 installed on OSX 10.6.8 on a MacPro, including the Extension Pack. Windows 7 is installed, and seems to function fine. But when I try to install the Guest additons both the VM and VirtualBox hang.
This starts the moment I use the menu items "Choose virtual disk" or "Install Guest Additions". Only way to get out is to force quit both VM and VirtualBox.
Any solution?
