The adapter type dropdown for network cards has 6 choices. Of those, Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop is the only one that is able to give you internet when running Windows inside virtualbox.

Why is this? Are the other 5 not network cards?

You can select any of the other network adapters but you would need to download the Windows adapter software for it.
But since the intel pro 1000 MT works why bother?
