I have my computer which is windows 7, and some of the software that I use to program PLCs only works on XP. So I used virtual box to make an XP machine and the program runs fine, but when I try connecting to the PLC it just won't connect. I tried configuring the "virtual" network adapter as well as my host adapter the same, but still won't connect. I tried bridging and NAT but they just won't work.

The ip address of the plc is 172.29.50.15

Bridged networking will work fine if you configure it correctly. In fact it should work automativally if you hav e DHCP server on the network. Bridged networking simply bridges the NIC in the vm to the physical network. It should behave just like an other machine on the LAN.

Try some simple network troubleshooting. Make sure the vm is set to get an IP automatically. Boot it up and then compare the network configs of the host and guest.
