USB DVD Writer - not writing

Hi All,

I'm running virtualbox on OS X Lion, with XP loaded. I have 2 USB devices connected, a Sony HD Cam and a USB DVD Writer.

The writer is recognised by XP and i can browse and read disks, i just cannot write to them even with basic programs like CDBurnerXP

Any idea why the drive may not be writing. The errors are program specific. I see the blank DVD-R in CDBXP and as soon as it begins to write it throws a generic error and the drive spits the disk out.

I have the USB active in the VB filters list and i have the drive checked and passthrough enabled and it's a secondary IDE device in my storage settings of the VM.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Update

(This perhaps only applies to USB drivers)

It seems that OS X tries to occupy the drive if you have the drive in the list of CD/DVD storage options under the VB settings, even with passthrough checked.

If you remove the device from this list and make sure the device has a USB filter enabled in the USB ports list the drive will show up in windows as a USB drive, drivers installed and there should be no problems using it as a writer.
